Pass the SALT 2026, Lille

Fractum: an open-source CLI for Threshold-Based Cold Storage of Critical Secrets, by Cédric (Katvio). Presented on 2 July 2026 at Pass the SALT, Université Catholique de Lille, in the Crypto for Users track. The talk is 35 minutes long and in English.

It covers why copying an encrypted file to several places does not remove the single point of failure, how Fractum encrypts the file with AES-256-GCM and splits the key with Shamir's Secret Sharing over GF(2^128), what building it in Python does and does not protect against, and the roadmap toward an independent audit.
